In the news: Virginia Tech shooting

As Americans try to come to terms with what happened yesterday at the Virginia Tech campus, when a student shot and killed 32 people and injured at least 15 others, one of the many questions left unanswered is: why do they do it? And why is this type of crime more common in the US than anywhere else?

Here is an
article written by James Alan Fox, professor of criminal justice at Northeastern University, and published in the LA Times. In the text, he discusses the issue and presents a number of possible reasons behind mass murders in America. One of them is the fact that powerful weapons are easier to get now than in the past. What do you think? Here's our quick poll on gun control:

America and gun control

After the shooting at Virgina Tech, do you think the US should have more rigid gun control legislation?

Yes, this incident is a good example of what can happen when people have easy access to guns.
No, these shootings are isolated incidents, not directly related to stricter gun control.
I don't know. I need more information about the subject.
